Marking the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, Dublin Theatre Festival will this year present Hamlet from Berlin's Schaubühne company.
Thomas Ostermeier directs the production which transforms the stage of the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre to resemble a huge graveyard, covered in earth, blood and water.
Since its première in 2008, this Berlin adaptation of Hamlet has toured to Buenos Aires, Taipei, Sydney, Seoul, Athens and London.
Hamlet opens the 2014 Dublin Theatre Festival on Thursday September 25, and performances can be seen at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre until September 27.
“This mind-blowing, spit-hurling, earth-moving evening… is about what theatre can do,” raved The Guardian. “Reach beyond your expectations and encounter a work which is dynamic and utterly enthralling.” enthused the Australian Stage.
The production lasts 2 hrs and 45 mins, with no interval. However re-admittance will be permitted throughout the performance. Performed in German with English surtitles
Tickets, from €15, are available now from the Dublin Theatre Festival Box Office online at www.dublintheatrefestival.com
