A Betty Boop movie is currently in development at Simon Cowell's Syco studio.

The feature-length movie is described as a "music-driven hybrid animated comedy".

The film will be co-developed by Animal Logic Entertainment, the animation studio behind the hugely successful The Lego Movie.

Producers include Zareh Nalbandian and Jason Lust from Animal Logic, plus Simon Cowell and Adam Milano for Syco.

"Betty is an icon, and one of the biggest stars in the world – I'm thrilled to be working with her," said Cowell. "Betty, I've worked with some serious divas but I think you could be the biggest of them all!"

Betty Boop's last movie appearance was in 1988's Who Framed Roger Rabbit. More recently, she's featured in ads for a variety of products.

Syco and Animal Logic announced plans to produce music-based movies for youngsters earlier this year and this is clearly the start of that process.

While the Betty Boop movie is currently without a release date, the first project between the two studios is expected in 2016.
