Two previously unpublished letters from James Joyce to his son Giorgio revealing his anxiety about publicity surrounding his wedding to Nora Barnacle have been digitised for online viewing on the National Library website.

The letters reveal Joyce's disquiet and unease after English newspapers learned that the celebrated author was about to marry Barnacle in a civil ceremony in London.

The couple had been living together as man and wife for almost 27 years in Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France.
