Cork venue The Pavilion, which first opened its doors in 1921 and played host to gigs by Franz Ferdinand and Mike Scott among many others, has closed down with immediate effect.
“Sadly we are closed of now,” venue managers tweeted today (July 21). “We did our very best. Thanks for all the good times. To our brilliant staff, all the bands, DJs and of course you. We know you loved the place a much we did!”
The venue has given no official reason for its closure and were unavailable for comment when RTÉ Ten tried to contact them.
Kanye West made a surprise visit to The Pavilion in 2009 after playing The Marquee in Cork. Brendan Benson, Cathal Coughlan, R.S.A.G, Fred, The Frank and Walters, Laura Marling, Mick Flannery, Freddie White, Lloyd Cole, and Adrian Crowley were also among the acts who took to the Pavilion's stage over the years.
The Careys Lane venue in Cork City won the Munster Live Venue of the Year award in 2010.
