Neil Patrick Harris may be on his way to Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story: Freak Show.

The How I Met Your Mother star had mentioned during a radio interview in the US that he had asked creator Ryan Murphy to be a part of the new season of American Horror Story.

"I wrote a letter to Ryan asking if I can be in it, even though I wasn't even available to be in it," Harris admitted. "To do one that involves any kind of freak, circus nonsense is going to be so unsettling to watch. Can't wait!"

At that time, Harris had yet to receive a response. But yesterday (July 18) Murphy tweeted: "Of course you can be on Freak Show! I have a role I think you'd love."

Harris previously guest-starred in the first season of Murphy's long-running Fox series Glee, in the Joss Whedon-directed episode Dream On.

Freak Show will be the fourth season of FX's American Horror Story, and is scheduled to debut in October before screening on sister UK satellite channel Fox.
