The Legend of Longwood, a new family adventure which was filmed in Ireland, has been selected to compete at the 44th Giffoni Film Festival for young people in Italy.

The film stars Lucy Morton, Thekla Reuten, Fiona Glascott, Miriam Margolyes, Seán Mahon, Lorcan Cranitch, Lorcan Bonner and Anabel Sweeney, and follows an American girl who must free a cursed Irish town.

Director Lisa Mulcahy said: "I am delighted that the film has been invited to Giffoni.

"Making this film has just been a fantastic experience and I am really looking forward to watching it with so many children as well as [being] intrigued to see how it plays with an Italian audience."

Producer Michael Garland added: "The producers are delighted that the film will have its first public screening at such a prestigious festival. We made the film to appeal to an audience of kids and parents alike and Giffoni, with its young peoples audience and jury, represents an ideal opportunity for the film."

The Giffoni Film Festival runs from July 18 to 27 and features 163 films chosen from a possible 3,760.
