Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine wanted the role in Begin Again so much that he worked for free.

The 35-year-old Moves Like Jagger hitmaker makes his big screen debut in the romantic drama alongside Keira Knightley, James Corden and Mark Ruffalo. Levine has admitted he didn't get paid for his role in the movie.

Speaking to USA Today Levine said: "I did this movie for no money. I'm very lucky that I'm in that position. I want to have good experiences. I don't want to do a bunch of s**t that I hate. I want to treat (acting) completely differently because I have the very fortunate luxury of not having to think of this in terms of money."

Begin Again opens in Ireland on July 11.
