Steve Martin has taken to Twitter to address rumours that he is to star in Father of the Bride 3.

The comedy actor last night (June 16) said that he has not seen a script or been offered the role.

He told his Twitter followers: "So excited to read I'm doing Father of the Bride 3 since I haven't seen a script or been offered the role!"

Martin was reportedly set to reprise his role as businessman George Banks in a third instalment of the comedy, alongside Diane Keaton as his wife Nina, according to website NikkiFinke.com.

1991's Father of the Bride was based on the 1950 film of the same name, while the sequel in 1995 was loosely based on the 1951 film Father's Little Dividend.
