The director’s new movie will reportedly star Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix. Allen is expected to write and direct, and the film is described as a "contemporary story" set in the world of academia. Allen is understood to intend shooting the film in July.

Emma Stone also stars in Allen's next film to actually hit cinemas, the comedy Magic in the Moonlight, alongside Colin Firth.

Allen’s Oscar-winning Blue Jasmine, starring Cate Blanchett, was shot in the USA, specifically in New York and San Francisco. The Rhode Island location sees Allen film closer to home once again, after a series of films shot abroad.

Magic in the Moonlight was filmed on the French Riviera, and  is set for a US release in July. The much-acclaimed Midnight in Paris and the somewhat less-acclaimed yet popular Vicky Cristina Barcelona, were shot in France and Spain respectively. Match Point was filmed in London.
