Jessica Chastain has been offered a leading role in True Detective's next season, according to reports.

Sources told website Nerdist that the Oscar-nominated actress is being lined up to star in the second run of the HBO anthology series, but has yet to accept the role.

Representatives for the Zero Dark Thirty star declined to comment on the reports.

The series creator Nic Pizzolatto is rumoured to be seeking a female-led cast, after Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson starred in the show's critically acclaimed first season.

Chastain will be seen later this year in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi Interstellar.
