Actor Jean Durjardin admits that while winning an Oscar for his role in 2012's silent film The Artist was a "fabulous experience," he never bought into the "fantasy" created by the award.

The 41-year-old French star insists that he never bought into the hype created around the accolade.

Speaking to Variety, he said: ''There's a big fantasy around the Oscar but I never bought it. It was a fabulous experience but after all, I'm a French actor, I'm not American and I love performing in my language.''

Dujardin will next star in Claude Lelouch's romantic movie Un de Plus.
