Mariah Carey has announced that the title of her new album is Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse.

Speaking to Billboard about the album, due for release on May 27, Carey said part of the title came from "a personal possession of mine that's part of an entity that I've had almost all my life".

In a YouTube clip promoting the album, Carey says the first half of the title is from her "first and only self-portrait", which she drew as a child and which appears on the back cover.

"Please don't judge me for such a simplistic title. Come on, I was only three-and-a-half," she says.

The Elusive Chanteuse, Carey says, has become her new nickname.
