Coronation Street star Jimmi Harkishin is taking a break from the soap to go travelling with his daughter before she starts university.

Harkishin, who has played shop owner and local businessman Dev Alahan in the show for 16 years, is set to take three months away from the cobbles.

A spokesperson for the show confirmed the news to mirror.co.uk, saying: "It was agreed way in advance, and other actors who have been on the show a long time have done the same thing from time to time and taken a sabbatical."

It is also reported that Harkishin will not be leaving Coronation Street until early next year to give scriptwriters the time to write the exit story.
