Joan Jett and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe may front Nirvana for a live performance when surviving members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic are inducted into the Rock `n' Roll Hall of Fame tonight, April 10.
Rumours of Jett's appearance with Nirvana were sparked when a shot of her distinctive Gibson Melody Maker guitar set alongside Grohl, Novoselic and Pat Smear's instruments was posted on Foo Fighters' Instagram account.
Stipe, who will induct Nirvana at tonight's ceremony in New York, could also feature in a line-up with a revolving cast of singers standing in for Cobain.
Talk of a Nirvana performance at the Rock `n' Roll Hall of Fame began when Novoselic hinted that the surviving members of the band might play on his Twitter, saying that he was practising bass parts and mentioning Nirvana.
The ceremony will take place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center tonight and will also see Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello induct Kiss and Bruce Springsteen induct the E Street Band. Coldplay's Chris Martin will also pay tribute to Peter Gabriel.
