Martin Sheen has been cast in director Warren Beatty's as-yet-untitled Howard Hughes movie.

According to Deadline the biopic tells the story of the relationship between Hughes' assistant (Alden Ehrenreich) and his young lover (Lily Collins).

Beatty will star as Howard Hughes, the movie maverick who became one of the world's wealthiest men. Beatty will also produce the project.

It has yet to be announced what role Sheen will portray. Beatty's wife Annette Bening and Matthew Broderick also appear in the movie.

Sheen is best known for his work in 1973 film Badlands and 1979's Apocalypse Now, and he played  President Josiah Bartlet in the acclaimed US TV drama The West Wing.
