Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is reportedly being lined up to front a new HBO series.

The actor is said to be in talks to take the lead role in an upcoming sci-fi series The Beasts of Valhalla, according to Empire Online.

The Beasts Of Valhalla is based on a series of novels by George C. Chesbro, and would see Dinklage play private eye Dr Robert Frederickson, aka Mongo The Magnificent.

Writer Justin Monjo is adapting Chesbro's novels for HBO, and he described the project as "a grounded sci-fi series".

Monjo said: "HBO and Red Hour think [Dinklage] is perfect for the part and are very excited about the project,"

The Beasts of Valhalla would shoot in 2016, after Dinklage has finished work on Game of Thrones.

Monjo is also writing a new feature film spinoff from the cult sci-fi series Farscape.
