Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has been cast in Testament of Youth.

The actor will star alongside Alicia Vikander in the World War I film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is based on Vera Brittain's 1933 memoir of the same name, which recounts how the Oxford student (Vikander) postponed her studies to serve as a nurse.

After her brother and fiancé (Harington) were killed in the war, she found herself part of a lost generation who struggled to resume their interrupted lives.

James Kent will direct, while Gravity producer David Heyman is also attached to the BBC Films project.

Harington will soon be seen in Paul WS Anderson's upcoming disaster movie Pompeii.

He will also be reprising his role as Jon Snow in the fourth season of HBO's fantasy show Game of Thrones, which will air in April.
