Entertainment and endurance combine when Ireland's Fittest Family begins tonight (January 11) - and if the promo video is anything to go by we're set for manic, must-see magic from one of the mentors, Clare hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald.

Twelve families will compete for the title and €15,000 on the Mairéad Farrell-hosted show, with Fitzgerald, rugby coach Eddie O'Sullivan, Olympic silver medal-winning boxer Kenneth Egan and Irish international hockey player Nikki Symmons pitted against each other as they try to get the best out of their teams.

In episode one, tonight at 7.30pm, the qualifying heats sees the families introduced to an urban adventure course in the middle of Dublin's Docklands which has been designed by Toughathlon.

With shipping containers, water and rugged terrain, the course, we are told, "will push them to mental and physical extremes".
