Sophie Ellis-Bextor has opened up about why she chose to join Strictly Come Dancing.

The singer told Marie Claire magazine that she wanted to "shake things up a bit" by learning to dance on the BBC One Show.

She explained: "It was more about the desire to shake things up a bit. I really had no idea what I'd be like [at dancing] so there's a bit of a risk element.

"It was petrifying - you get so nervous before the dance - but also a privilege. I want to push myself. It's too early to coast along."

Ellis-Bextor is competing in the quarter finals of Strictly this weekend alongside Abbey Clancy, Susanna Reid, Ashley Taylor Dawson, Natalie Gumede and Patrick Robinson.
