Guitar great Rory Gallagher has been posthumously honoured with the Tommy Vance Inspiration Award at the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards in London.

Classic Rock magazine said: "The ability to inspire a new generation is a genuinely special trait. To be an inspirational figure you must not only be mercurially talented, but also a boundary-pusher, someone who breaks down walls and refuses to let their creativity be stifled."

Accepting the award, Rory Gallagher's brother Dónal said: "Ideally, I would want my brother here to collect the award in person, but I am very grateful to all who fly the Rory flag - this is one for the fans."

The new Rory Gallagher box set, Kickback City, has just been released.
