Jason Bateman has been lined up to direct and star in Nicole Kidman's new film, The Family Fang.

The 44-year-old Horrible Bosses actor has signed up to star in and direct the movie, which is based on Kevin Wilson's book.

Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and Bateman play parents, who force their love for performance art on their children during their early years. But when a family crisis brings them back together later in life, it remains to be seen if they will participate in their family act.

Producers Leslie Urdang and Per Saari said of Bateman: "No filmmaker can better realise this heartbreaking and funny story than Jason Bateman. This is a dream collaboration."

This will be the second directorial venture for Bateman - his first venture behind the camera, Bad Words, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada earlier this year.
