The ten-part second season of Armando Iannucci’s critically-acclaimed political comedy Veep begins tonight on Sky Atlantic.

Two-time Emmy winner and Seinfeld legend Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns as Vice President Selina Meyer, who this time around is in the middle of the US midterm elections.

This first episode introduces viewers to more of the president’s staff - including Kent Davison (Gary Cole), the Commander-in-Chief’s new senior strategist, a cut-throat and cold statistician.

Despite Selina’s party losing the House of Representatives and suffers heavy defeats, she gets a 0.9% polling bump during the midterm elections, and gains some traction within the White House.

Meyers’ improved public approval ratings means that the President is more willing to use her. But unfortunately, as the most public member of the faltering party, she may be considered the “face of failure”.

Veep season two begins tonight (Wednesday) on Sky Atlantic at 10.35pm.
