Anthony Hopkins has been cast in a new thriller Kidnapping Freddy Heineken.

The actor joins Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington and Ryan Kwanten in the film, which will be directed by Daniel Alfredson.

Alfredson previously directed the original 2009 Swedish film version of The Girl Who Played With Fire and its sequel The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

Kidnapping Freddy Heineken centres on the story of the grandson of the founder of the Heineken brewery and his driver who were kidnapped in 1983 and held to a ransom of 35 million Dutch guilders.

Hopkins will play Dutch businessman Alfred "Freddy" Heineken in the film.

The thriller begins shooting in October.
