Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has said he is losing a lot of weight for his next role in Unbroken.

The actor is set to star in the Angelina Jolie-directed film playing war hero Russell Allen Phillips.

Speaking to WENN he said “I'm losing weight getting ready to shoot Unbroken with Angelina Jolie. I've gotten almost where I need to be; I've lost a lot.

"I kind of feel if I hadn't lost the weight we would have found a way around it, so this is a choice I made to be more authentic."

He continued: "It takes place on a raft and I start in two and a half weeks in Australia. I'm really looking forward to it."

The film is based on the true story of Lou Zamperini and is based on the book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption which was written by Laura Hillenbrand.

Zamperini was a former Olympian who crash landed in Pacific and survived without food and water for 47 days in 1943 before being captured by the Japanese.
