Robert De Niro will replace his late friend James Gandolfini in new TV mini-series titled Criminal Justice, according to a reports.

The 70-year-old actor will step in for Gandolfini in the U.S. adaptation of Peter Moffatt's popular BBC drama of the same name, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

De Niro is believed to playing a lawyer defending a man accused of murdering a girl in New York.

Gandolfini, who died in Italy last June, developed the seven-part series and signed on to star in the show.
