Veteran actor Bob Newhart finally picked up his first Emmy last night for his cameo role in The Big Bang.

The award was presented at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys which chiefly recognises those working behind the scenes in television but also recognises actors in guest roles, says EW.

Speaking at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles the actor said of the standing ovation he received “I was totally unprepared for that.”
The 84-year-old actor thanks his wife of 50 years, his children and the cast of The Big Bang.

Newhart made an appearance in the hugely popular comedy show last May as Professor Proton, the star of Leonard and Sheldon’s favourite kids’ science TV show. The cameo was such a success that he will make a return experience on the show this season.
