Dublin actor Andrew Scott has joined Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West and Paddy Considine in the cast of the new gay pride comedy Pride.

Screen Daily says the Sherlock star will play Gethin in the film, which is set in 1984 and tells the story of a group of gay and lesbian activists who travel to a mining village in Wales to donate money they have raised to the families of striking miners.

"I'm delighted to be a part of it; I think it's going to be a really special movie," said Scott.

Pride will begin shooting on October 7 in London and Wales.
