Joshua Jackson has been cast in drama pilot The Affair.

The actor joins an all-star cast including Dominic West (The Wire), Maura Tierney (ER) and Ruth Wilson (Luther) in the pilot from In Treatment's Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi.

The drama, which is being made by Showtime, will explore two marriages which are devastated by an affair, focusing on the fallout from the infidelity.

Jackson will place Cole, a cowboy who manages a ranch on Long Island that has been in his family for generations, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He is married to Allison (Wilson), a young woman who is trying to piece her life back together in the wake of a tragedy.

Their marriage becomes even more complicated when Allison begins an affair with Noah (West), a New Yorker who is spending the summer with his family on the island.

Tierney will play Helen, Noah's college sweetheart, mother of his children and wife of 17 years.

Jackson was last seen on the small screen in Fox's Fringe, which ran for five seasons, ending in January.
