Steven Spielberg will no longer be directing American Sniper after deciding he couldn't make his vision work for the film's budget.

According to Deadline, the 66-year-old award-winning filmmaker and his DreamWorks studios will no longer be associated with the military movie, which will see Bradley Cooper starring as Navy SEAL Chris Kyle.

The movie, which has a planned release for 2015, was penned by Jason Hall and centres on Kyle's memoir, American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in US Military History.
