It's been announced that US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres will present the 86th annual Academy Awards.

DeGeneres broke the news on Twitter on Friday (August 2) that she will MC Hollywood's biggest night in 2014. She previously hosted the event in 2007, and has also presented the Primetime Emmy Awards on several occasions.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are also returning to produce the marathon telecast for the second year in a row.

The producers said in a joint statement: "We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars. As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars.

"There are few stars today who have Ellen's gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are."

The 86th Academy Awards will be broadcast from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 2, 2014.
