Homeland star Damian Lewis has taken to Twitter to talk about the show’s upcoming third season.

The British actor plays former hostage and double agent Nicholas Brody, who will not appear in the first two episodes of the new run.

Lewis previously said: "He’s disappeared into a tunnel and exfiltration system that Carrie has affected."

The new season begins 200 days after the last, when Brody does reappear, however, he'll be on the run and Lewis said he "is the most-wanted criminal in the world at this point".

But today (Thursday) on Twitter he announced the starting date of Homeland season three and also described the new season as ‘dark’.

He tweeted: “ Homeland season 3 to premiere Sept 29tth in The States. And just a week or two after that the UK will see it. It's DARK.....”
