James Cameron has said that he will begin work on his long-awaited film Battle Angel in 2017.
The film will be an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s 1990 manga series Battle Angel Alita. Set in the 26th century, it tells the story of Alita, a cyborg with no memory who is rescued from a rubbish heap by a cybernetics doctor.
Speaking at the TagDF forum in Mexico City, the Titanic director said he plans to make the film following the final instalment of his ‘Avatar’ trilogy.
Cameron has expressed interest in the story for some time saying the themes of transhuman evolution have “haunted” him for years. Cameron is currently working on the second Avatar movie which is set to be released in 2015.
