Avril Lavigne spoke about her plans to have a "crazy vacation" wedding to musician Chad Kroeger, and she appears to have succeeded, with a three-day celebration in the South of France.

The singer broke away from tradition, wearing a black tulle Monique Lhuillier gown for the July 1 nuptials, which had a Gothic theme.

Lavigne had previously told Hello! magazine about her plans to wed at the Chateau de la Napoule medieval castle near Cannes.

She said: "I wanted to make sure it’s a crazy vacation and an experience of a lifetime for our guests."

Lavigne continued: "I wanted it to be over the top. I’m obsessed with castles and I love French décor and Goth... I found this castle in France and we visited it and it was perfect."

Nickelback star Kroeger, 38, also told the magazine: "When you've got that ring on your finger that you get to look at every single day, and you get to call that other person husband or wife, it's a really special feeling."

The couple wed before 110 guests in the candlelit castle, People reports.
