Despicable Me 2 star Kristen Wiig has ruled out a follow-up to her hugely successful comedy Bridesmaids after turning down a lucrative deal to write a sequel.

The movie raked in $288 million (221 million) worldwide with Bridesmaids following its release in 2011.

The cast, including Melissa McCarthy and Maya Rudolph, have both expressed their desire to return for a second movie, but Wiig reveals she declined a sequel offer.

Speaking to Harper's Bazaar, Wiig said: "It wasn't a hard decision. We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that's not my goal in my creative life."
