Justin Timberlake is to star as Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart in a new film about the late record executive's life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spinning Gold will follow Bogart's rags to riches story up until his untimely death at the age of 39.

The project was formally announced yesterday (May 3) at the Cannes Film Festival and will begin filming early next year.

Timberlake will co-produce with Mark Damon, Laurence Mark and Gary A Randall, as well as Bogart's son Timothy Scott Bogart.

RCA Records will partner the project and release the film's soundtrack, which will feature a number of songs Bogart promoted during his career - but reimagined by today's musicians.

Bogart is credited with discovering artists such as Donna Summer, The Village People and Gladys Knight.
