Paul McCartney has been named the Britain and Ireland's wealthiest musician by the Sunday Times Rich List. The Beatle star topped the list of music millionaires along with his wife Nancy Shevell, with whom he shares a £680 million fortune.

McCartney has continually topped the chart measuring the country's richest musician since the Sunday Times Rich List began in 1989.

Coming in second place is Andrew Lloyd Webber with a total wealth of £620 million, while U2 came in third with a net worth of £520 million. U2 top the Irish list of wealthiest musicians.

A surprise entry on the list is Lord of the Dance's Michael Flatley, who slotted in at number seven with £191 million.

Adele was named the richest young musician in the Sunday Times rich list with a fortune of £30 million, up from £20 million in 2012.

Cheryl Cole took second place with £14 million, while Leona Lewis and Katie Melua came in joint third place with £12 million.

Rounding off the top five is Florence Welch with an estimated worth of £9 million.
