Singer-songwriter Gabrielle Aplin, who shot to fame with her YouTube cover of The Power of Love, has said that Ireland is her "second home".

The singer, who performed on The John Murray Show on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning, is back in Ireland as part of her current tour and will perform in Dublin's Academy tonight (Friday, April 5).

She told RTÉ TEN: "Ireland is my second home, my boyfriend lives very close to here [RTÉ] so I'm gonna go there after and get breakfast!

"I spend a lot of time here, especially in Dublin, and I go to Wicklow quite a lot as well."

Aplin met her Irish beau when she came over to Ireland for a gig.

Talking about The John Murray Show, she said: "His [boyfriend's] mum listens to it quite a bit - she wakes up and puts it on - so I have listened to it before without realising!"

Aplin has a busy few months ahead: "My next single [Panic Cord, the first single on her new album] comes out and then my album, English Rain, is out at the end of May.

"Then it's into festival season and by the time that finishes I'll be on my next single and then I'll do my November tour."

As to the festivals she's looking forward to, she said: "Glastonbury is going to be a good one. I think I'm doing Longitude [Dublin's Marlay Park from July 19 to 21] and that's quite a new one, isn't it? That's going to be good."

Speaking about her musical idols, she said: "Vocally, Joni Mitchell is probably my main one, but I've just been on tour with Ed Sheeran and his work ethic is like nothing I've ever seen.

"He works so hard; he hasn't had a day off in a few years, apart from Christmas and he went straight from the tour we did, which was a month-long tour in Australia, straight to a year-long tour in America.

"He'd stay up 'til four but then he'd get up at five am for promo. He literally works so hard."

Aplin shared one of her beauty tips with us: "I don't wear make-up unless I need to be somewhere and I just put Jurlique oil on. It's so good - just put it on before you go to bed."
