Following her acclaimed performance on last year's BBC Children in Need, EastEnders star Shona McGarty is set to record some of her own songs.

The Sun reports that Florence + The Machine's management have given the 21-year-old, who plays Whitney Dean, time in the studio.

"I'm always writing and singing my own songs so I am going into the studio to record some of them." McGarty says.

But she added: "It isn't anything official; they are just for my own personal use. I have no plans to leave EastEnders."

McGarty performed in amateur musical theatre before joining EastEnders in 2008 and was widely praised for her performance of Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come on Children in Need.
