Jude Law has replaced Michael Fassbender in the forthcoming western Jane Got a a Gun.

The Side Effects star will take on the role of the villain, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Joel Edgerton, who had previously been cast as the character of the villain, will now play the hero role.

Natalie Portman stars as a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullets. When his gang tracks him down to finish the job, she reaches out to an ex-lover to ask if he will help defend her farm.

Edgerton will play the ex-lover, while Law will be the leader of the gang that lays siege to the homestead.

Lynne Ramsey (We Need to Talk About Kevin) is directing.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in New Mexico in April, however a release date for Jane Got a Gun is yet to be set.
