X-Factor host Dermot O'Leary has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to host BBC politics show Question Time.

The 39-year-old presenter explained that he was tempted to take on the Question Time gig to "satiate my ego", but admitted that he had concerns about expressing his views in an era of "internet-generated instant opinion".

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, O'Leary further admitted that he wouldn't mind fronting his own political project, saying: "However, I'm into politics. And I'd like to host a political show, though my manager will probably shudder to hear me say it."

Dermot O'Leary recently took to the red carpet to interview all of the stars at this year's BAFTAs, along with Xtra Factor star Caroline Flack.
