Argo has won one of the top film prizes at this year's Writers Guild of America (WGA) Awards on Sunday night in a bicoastal awards ceremony held simultaneously in Los Angeles and New York.

The Ben Affleck-directed drama took home the gong for best Adapted Screenplay for writer Chris Terrio.

In the best Original Screenplay category, Mark Boal was honoured for Zero Dark Thirty.

Malik Bendejelloul was awarded the Best Documentary prize for Searching for Sugar Man.

Girls, Breaking Bad and Mad Men were all honoured in the television categories.
