Eastenders is set to tackle the issue of teenager gangs in an upcoming storyline line featuring Bianca Butcher’s 14-year-old son Liam.
Digitalspy reports that the storyline is being featured in conjunction with Comic Relief to highlight the growing problem of teenagers becoming involved with gangs.
Bianca, played by Patsy Palmer, will be left distraught when Liam (James Forde) joins a gang and she loses control of him. He will find himself having to choose between his family and his friends.
The BBC soap previously teamed up with Comic Relief on a sex exploitation storyline involving the character of Whitney Dean in 2011.
Executive producer Lorraine Newman said "We are delighted to be working with Comic Relief once again. This subject matter is something which is touching the lives of so many young people in London and other cities around the UK.
"We have taken the opportunity to see the impact from a mother's perspective, and Patsy Palmer gives a powerful performance of a mother doing all she can to protect her son. The telling of this story has also given us the chance to explore the reasons behind the attraction of gangs for teenagers."
The storyline line airs next month.
