Tina Turner has officially swapped her American citizenship to become a Swiss citizen after living in the country for over 18 years.

The Grammy-winning performer has lived in the Zurich suburb of Kuesnacht since 1995 and according to ABC News report the government has granted the 73-year-old Swiss citizenship.

The singer and native of Nutbush, Tennessee told a German newspaper: "I'm very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here. I cannot imagine a better place to live."

Her representative added that "[She] will therefore also give back her U.S. citizenship."

According to the Zuerichsee-Zeitung newespaper website the singer has been granted citizenship but the decision still requires final approval from state and federal authorities.
