With her character Zainab due to leave Albert Square next week, EastEnders star Nina Wadia has said fans are in for a tearjerker.
Warning: spoiler alert!
When asked by the Radio Times if Zainab's departure involves Ayesha's (Shivani Ghai) pursuit of Masood (Nitin Ganatra), Wadia replied: "That sparks something else off for Zainab and Masood, which starts the process. There's also what happened in the past with Yusef and with Jane. It's all of those things.
"What we see is the breakdown of something very solid: a 30-year relationship. Zainab loves Masood 110 per cent. There's no doubt in her mind. So she knows she can go on living with him, but he can't go on living with her. And it's very, very sad. We had the crew in tears! Nitin played it beautifully."
As to whether fans have seen the last of Zainab, Wadia answered: "That's a hard question. Currently, the way things stand for me, yes.
"But they gave me the biggest compliment in the world by leaving the door open. And you never say never in this profession. So that's the whole truth."
