The third series of Downton Abbey has premiered in the US and the ratings have almost doubled in comparison to the second series.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the first episode averaged 7.9 million viewers which is a 96% increase in the season two premier in January 2012 of 4.2 million.

It will be interesting to see how the season finale will do in America following last year’s ratings of 5.4 million viewers in February 2012.
