Despite reports that Matt Damon will not return to play Jason Bourne, the actor has expressed his continued interest in the role.

The Oceans actor last played the special agent in 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum, before Jeremy Renner took on the role of Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy.

Speaking about returning to the Bourne franchise, he said: "I've always been [open], I love that character and I love that series."

He added: "It's just really an issue of finding the story. We don't know what that is. How do you get that character going again? If we could crack that, we'd do it."

The actor also said that he has on-going film discussions with The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass.

He said: "We have a bunch of stuff we talk about but Bourne always comes up, inevitably, because it's a big, significant part of our lives.

"So we would love for it to work out, but it's a tough one."
