Irish hip hop trio The Original Rudeboys have turned down a chance to play with Chris Brown because of his attack on former girlfriend Rihanna.

The band had been invited to perform as special guests at Brown's O2 date in December but the Dubliners have issued a statement turning down the gig.

"Even though it’s a huge opportunity to play in the 02 with a major hip hop star and a substantial fee was offered, we are completely against Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna,” said Original Rudeboy ukulele player Sean Walsh.

“In addition, with our latest single Blue Eyes being about domestic violence it goes against everything we are about as a band and supporting Chris Brown would send out the wrong message to our fans."

The Original Rudeboys have recently played live dates with The Script and Cheryl Cole and are about to re-issue their debut album This Life in a deluxe edition featuring extras including a DVD.

They also play two shows (all ages matinee and over 18s evening) at The Academy in Dublin on December 22.
