Girls Aloud have been named the biggest girl group of the 21st century.

The pop group's statistics have been revealed ahead of the official announcement of their reunion.

They are the UK's biggest selling girl group of the 21st century based on single sales, having sold 4.3 million since their 2002 debut.

The band had four number one songs, 20 top ten hits and two number one albums between 2002 and 2008.

Their best selling single was Sound of the Underground, which sold 653,000 copies in the UK, while The Promise is their highest-selling download on 485,000.

Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company said: "With a staggering 20 Top ten singles and four number ones, we're delighted to officially crown Girls Aloud as the UK's biggest selling girl group of the 21st Century.

"As the Official Charts Company gears up to celebrate 60 years of the Official Singles Chart next month, we wish a huge congratulations to Nadine, Cheryl, Nicola, Sarah and Kimberley on their own 10 poptastic years in music!"

Girls Aloud are expected to announce details fo a UK tour later today.
