George Clooney has admitted that he was happy to let Ben Affleck take over his directing duties for the upcoming movie, Argo.

Argo tells the story of a CIA rescue operation to save six American diplomats held hostage in Iran in the 1970s.

Clooney had to walk away from the drama picture because of scheduling conflicts with The Ides Of March, but the Ocean's Eleven actor explained that Affleck, who agreed to act and star in the thriller, did a great job.

Speaking to the New York Post, Clooney said: "I was doing Ides of March and gave this (Argo) to Ben because we were ready to shoot... we felt really lucky he wanted to do it, and he did better than anyone could imagine."
