Music legend Christy Moore was John Murray's special guest on RTÉ Radio 1 this morning, Thursday September 27, and you can now listen back to the show.

During the show, which Murray described as "the Encyclopaedia Christy Moore", Moore sang songs chosen by the show's listeners and chatted to them about his life and work.

"I think without listeners, singers are in a lonely place, y'know?" said Moore. "I've been singing all me life and when people sit and listen to the songs it puts the life into the song."

After the show, Murray said: "Having Christy on this morning was one of the highlights of my broadcasting career to date! It was my first time meeting Christy, but I've known for a long time his connection with my family, especially the late Michael and Sheila Murray from Clonmel.

"As we discovered this morning, Christy's songs have touched the lives of so many of our listeners: they associated their requested songs with the various highs and lows of their lives.

"Among others, we heard from emigrants in Australia and the US; from the recently bereaved; and from those who grew up alongside Christy in Kildare. His mixture of humour, irreverence, and empathy made my morning!"
